September Summary

Seeing that we're already half way through October and I still have not managed to blog about September, here's a short summary of what went down in the past weeks:

1) The child who was supposed to be removed from her mother and who had the leading role in my week from hell was discharged into the care of her mother with the argument that there are already enough AIDS orphans in the country and we should not be removing children that have perfectly alive parents

2) The child who was raped is still waiting for her case to go to court. Unfortunately, less than 2% of all reported child rapes in South Africa lead to convictions

3) About 30 or more girls interviewed by us had to be referred to social services for having gone through the traumatic experience of rape

4) My volunteer has arrived.

5) The old Bakkie has died a most heinous death (it was traded in) and a new Bakkie Bertold has taken its place. Bakkie Bertold just flies over little bumps like they don't even exists and is a joy to drive.

6) Spring is coming and with it the bug season. On a number of occasions I found myself standing on a chair screaming for dear life after what we commonly know as Red Romans has scuttled past my bare feet on the ground. They are disgusting animals and in my opinion have no right to co-exist in my house.
