Eish, a whole month without a post. This is due to the fact that my lovely cousin came to visit for quite some time and we did a whole lot of cool things on which I will post some more later.
For now, please read this article in the Saturday Star which was published this weekend about our project.
We've also been very busy with community meetings as we have started interviewing in a new site on Monday.
This obviously involves getting in contact with the Ward Councillor to get permission and an invitation to join for the next meeting. The Ward Councillor of Cork (not the Cork in Ireland) had toyed around with us for the past weeks never confirming any meetings and postponing meeting with us. He finally came through with a contact number of a community development officer who invited us to a community meeting which took place yesterday.
Turns out, it wasn't a community meeting but a big community event with 400+ people to celebrate Women's Day which was early this month and to raise awareness for crime and violence against women and children. DoH and DoSD were both represented as were UNOCD and the police forces. One of the male research assistants presented in the middle of the field with a microphone in hand supported by the rest of the team cheering the women on making the crowd beg for more. He clearly enjoyed all this female attention and got some very interesting offers.
He later showed me his house and introduced me to his wife and kids which were super cute (on the right in this picture is obviously not his wife but another RA).
