As I've mentioned a lot before, I have a great team. Everyone works very hard and believes in the project and I am very happy with them generally. This does not mean that we have slip ups from time to time.
Some think they can bum off work early to collect their ARVs (antiretroviral treatment - used to treat AIDS) from the clinic because I am such a bleeding heart do gooder. Which I will allow in an emergency - but an emergency is not when people do not use their day off to collect them. Obviously, I will not say no and therefore interrupt treatment but I will have stern words with the individual if this happens too often.
Now yesterday, I had a message informing me that one of them couldn't come to work because he/she had to take his/her mother to the clinic as the father wasn't around. I allowed this of course stating that I would like them back in work after that to ensure we're meeting the weekly targets. He/she informed me that it would take all day to take the mother to the doctor to which I agreed.
Now, at mid-day I received a text message from the individual saying they were back in work. Immediately after I received a text message which was obviously directed at their girlfriend/boyfriend stating something along the lines of "I took the whole day off for you to have a great time with you but after I returned from the clinic you weren't there so I went to work. What's wrong with you? "
Now, bunking off work is one thing but then getting caught by the boss is almost hilarious. What followed was informing the culprit of mis-sending their text, a bit of letting him/her stew, a stern verbal warning in which I had a hard time keeping a straight face and the most sincere apology I have heard so far.
