Fulda - is there anybody out there?

I spent the last couple of days in Fulda. Fulda, as the name already suggests is not one of the most exciting towns in Germany, in fact, it is not exciting at all. I don't think I have ever been to a less interesting city anywhere in the world, and I am, as most of you know from a place called Edingen-Neckarhausen. Trying to spend a pleasurable first evening in Fulda, where Mario and me had to drive all the way from Brixen to promote the university, we ended up in the historic city centre at an Italian restaurant which wasn't actually so bad but then couldn't really find any bar to go to with more than 3 people inside. So we ended up in a pub called "Altstadt" watching Champions League Liverpool : Chelsea and then walked the entire city looking for the one taxi rank in town.
Early next day we made our way to the school at which the college fair took place. Fuldaians are very nice people and although the students didn't seem to be overly interested in the FUB we did have a couple of people come by who seemed to consider the option of studying trilingual.
After the fair we did some sight-seeing, covering all the basic tourist attractions in two hours and managing to even sneak a peek through the closed curtains of the Orangerie at "Die Starparade der Volksmusik" presented by Carmen Nebel a tv programme that delights the elderly and disgusts anybody under the age of 70.
That evening we went out again, having received a hint as to where the hanging out would rock. Dinner was exceptional, green and white asparagus in what seemed like the nicest restaurant in town. The only strange thing was that we were totally alone in that place. The bars that apparently rock, as we were told by the locals were totally empty, not a single person on the streets never mind anyone having a drink. It sucked pretty major for a Thursday evening. So again we made our way to the "Altstadt" to watch the Uefa Cup. The tv was switched on especially for us and Werder lost badly to Barcelona which made Mario increase his beer intake to ease the pain. We then made our way through the so called "Bermuda Triangle" - basically the three bars that rock, although we never tried the third one - and ended up at the "Eck's" run by a punk and frequented by the "Turbojungend Fulda" who were everything but turbo which triggered some very unpleasant remarks on our part.
The trip back was very pleasant as we were driving through the beautiful Allgäu region.
