Angkor What?

Cheers from the country far far away. We finally did it and made it to Angkor. After a not so busy day at work Dara told us to take the afternoon off, which we didn't do, after all we're good Germans, but we left an hour early since everybody else did so too. Tickets to the world heritage site, which is huge, cost a whopping $20, but if you buy yours the day before after 5 p.m. you have free access all evening, well, another hour or so until it gets dark. At Angkor Wat we encountered millions of tourists waiting for the sunset, so we told Mr. Dany the tuk tuk driver to take us to the Bayon, one of the most beautiful temples in Angkor Thom. For everyone here that does not know about Angkor, here it goes: Angkor was the site of a lot of Khmer capitals from the 9th to 15th century. At its peak 1 Million people lived in these cities. The site is located close to the city of Siem Reap and hosts over one thousand ruins, some of them still overgrown by the jungle and a UNESCO World Heritage. It is amazing to climb through these ruins and discover the old Khmer King's love for details. For those wanting to know more, click here.
The sunset at the Bayon was spectacular and we had the whole temple to ourselves with all these strange faces staring down at us.
