Day 2 of our little Kruger adventure and we left the camp site around 7am. None of us smelled too good because we hadn't been allowed to bath in any of the ponds because of crocodiles. We walked for about 2hrs and had breakfast under a huge tree overlooking the river bed. We then wandered off on an extended hike without the backpacks (yay!) and bumped into a whole herd of buffalo. Once they became aware of us they thundered off into the distance. Next were some elephants which we saw from about 30m distance. There were also a lot of vultures and a huge puddle of blood but no sign of its origin.
We had lunch under a big fig tree and were suddenly interrupted by a grazing elephant bull who wandered past.
The next few hours were spent lazing under the tree in the shade waiting for the afternoon heat to pass. Again, we were surprised by an elephant bull who did not notice us until he was a mere 10m away.
After lunch break we went for another little walk in the bush and came across a lot of vultures but no carcass.
Having spent two days in the sun without shower, we were all appropriately dirty and promised a bush-shower upon our return to the camp. Funnily enough, the bathroom is occupied when we return by a herd of elephant playing with the water. It was great to watch them, and another herd of buffalo in the distance and it was almost dark by the time they moved on.
We naturally had to work for our bathing water and dig further into the elephant hole for water before we were able to quickly wash with the water.
The evening was again spent around the camp fire.
