It was time to say goodbye on Sunday morning as we were leaving for Alice Springs. We had a huge family brunch with my sister's host family in Perth and then headed back to their house for an exchange of farewell gifts and to pick up the bags.
A farewell committee was already awaiting us at the airport and everybody got a bit emotional when Qantas ushered us onto the plane with their final boarding call.
The flight to Alice Springs, which is located in the middle of the country im the Northern Territory and a town in the middle of the desert took less than three hours and the views were great.
Having arrived in Alice Springs we quickly made ourselves familiar with the so-called bush greeting, a wave of your hand in front of your face. This is due to the 3 million flies that attack you the moment you step into the sunlight. They go into your eyes, your mouth, your hair, your ears and even buzz up your nose. There is no standing still here as the buzzing and tickling is unbearable. Even our hotel rooms were full of flies - another type though which all decided to collectively die on my bed during the night.
