Rotto and a title

Saturday was blazing hot again and as I wasn't able to organize a surfing lesson we decided to spend the day in Rottnest Island, or Rotto as people from Perth call it.
Rotto is 45 minutes off the coast of Perth and the main holiday destination. There are no cars on the island, apart from public buses, toilets are compostable and shops can only be found around the ferry harbour. We rented three bikes and decided to make our way down to the West End. It was a 10k single journey and as we only had 500ml of water with us we decided to re-stock on the island just before the map signalled that there was no more drinking water available once we had passed a certain spot. The map, however, did not state that there was no water whatsoever available on the island anyways apart from the shops around the harbour.
Close to dehytration we finally arrived at the West End, having driven in the sunshine for about 1h up and down a very beautiful country side with stunning views over bays and beaches. The West End was even more beautiful than the rest of Rotto and we would probably have enjoyed the view even more with some nice cold water running down our throats.
An hour later back in civilization watching the busy harbour we all downed litres of cold drinks.
Highlight of Rottnest Island from which its name derives are the Quokkas, small macropods which were mistaken for rats by the early settlers and which are quite tame, so tame in fact that you can just load them into your backpack if you wish to take one home. The Australian Government has made it illegal prosecuting people with fines of up to $1000 for feeding or petting Quokkas. So no Quokkas in my backyard at home.

The final two games of the Western Australian Softball Championship took place that evening at Mirabooka Stadium. Morley lost the first game against the Mariners after a nail biter of a tie break with 5:4. They unexpectedly won the last game 7:3 and therefore won the title for the very first time. As they had never before even reached a final this was a historic win which had to be celebrated until the early hours of Sunday morning. My sister played fabulous throughout both games and the whole family was very proud of her.
